Loxton is a charming, vibrant town on the southern bank of the River Murray. The town is the thriving centre of one of the most productive agricultural and horticultural regions in the state. One of Loxton’s wineries alone crushes in excess of 90,000 tonnes of grapes per year.

Known as the ‘Garden Town of the Riverland’ Loxton’s beautifully maintained gardens explode in a riot of colour all year round and are testament to the proud community spirit that exists in Loxton. This lovely garden town consistently gains high ratings in the Tidy Towns competition and was the state winner in 1995 and 2002.

Loxton offers unique attractions, a nationally recognized golf course, wine tasting, numerous festivals and events and a variety of nature based activities such as swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, bird watching and bush walking.

Visit the award winning Loxton Historical Village with over 35 fully furnished buildings and sites exhibiting farm equipment, machinery and household items used by the early settlers. Step back in time on ‘Village Alive’ days and experience life as it was in the early 1900s - watch the blacksmith at work, smell the bread baking. An adjacent extension to the Village provides a visual and tangible history of Loxton’s development and irrigation practices.

Christmas is a special time in Loxton and the celebrations begin on the last Sunday in November with a spectacular fireworks show. Hundreds of households and businesses throughout the town are decorated with fairy lights and Christmas displays viewed by tens of thousands of people every year as they follow the Christmas Lights Tour route. The Loxton Christmas Festival runs until New Years Eve with activities every Sunday in December (until Christmas).

Sport has always played a big part of life in Loxton and the town boasts many first class sporting facilities. The picturesque 18 hole, fully turfed golf course is ranked in the top 10 courses in the state by the Australian Golf Digest. The Nippy’s Loxton Gift, the richest regional foot race in South Australia, is held in Loxton on the last Saturday in February and has attracted top national and international athletes.

Excellent dining facilities are available, select from the extensive bistro menus or dine alfresco on the balcony at the Loxton Community Hotel Motel, or enjoy a quick bite at one of the many coffee shops, bakeries and takeaways. Children enjoy the Loxton Community Club with their undercover playground to let off a bit of steam while you enjoy great value for money bistro meals.

The townships of Moorook & Kingston On Murray are located a short drive northwest of Loxton. Here you can wander Banrock Station’s boardwalks or discover the Murray’s backwaters and creeks with a relaxing cruise.
